my Honeywell Aquastat Controller 8148A1090 failed ...

my Honeywell Aquastat Controller 8148A1090 failed to start my Burnham LE1 series oil fired boiler so will the newer 8148A1017 work? Does the 1090 have a well like the 1017 that houses a probe?
