After trying 2 different monitors I am persuaded the problem does not lie with the monitors themselves, but in my operating system. Settings dialog box in display properties does not provide for options indicated at microsoft.com. Can't remember precise dialog; it had to do with extending "something" to this monitor. The screen on Envision EN 710e appears the same as on the pavilion m50; it even appears like a 15" screen on this 17" monitor. I am learning a lot, but I haven't been to lick this problem.
