5 You have most likely broke the sealant ring when replacing the batteries. The unit alerts you because it realises there is a malfunction. Since this model has been discontinued, I would suggest replacing it with a newer model such as Firex's new Photoelectric or Ionization alarms, just depending on what kind of coverage you want.
