0 What you have is a Hoover SteamVac carpet shampooer. It sprays a mixture of shampoo and hot water onto the floors, scrubs it in and sucks it in. On the underside of handle is a trigger that is what dispenses the solution onto the floor. There are 2 water tanks. Top tank is for clean water. Release tank by pressing down on handle tab and pulling out. Unscrew top cap. Fill tank to line marked on front of tank with VERY HOT water- the hotter the water, the cleaner your house can be. Then using HOOVER Carpet shampoo available at many stores in several sizes use tank lid as measuring cup and pour 5 oz. to line. Dump into tank. Secure lid. Then reposition tank in unit, push bottom in first then secure handle. Bottom tank is recovery tank where the dirty water gets sucked into. To access this tank, remove upper tank and lower handle to floor or allow it rest on chair. Depending on machine design the tank may lock in several different ways. Some have locked tabs on either side at the bottom of the machine, which you pull out to disengage, and some you may just have to pull up the handle to remove tank. Pull tank up and hold securely level when full as you don't want it to spill. Remove lid by unlatching then dump water down toilet and rinse clean tank. The machine will raise in pitch and get louder when it is time to dump the recovery tank. Make sure you properly reseat lid and tank so that it is completely sealed and aligns with duct openings on machine base for suction to reach floor nozzle. On top of floor nozzle unit is a slide switch. It controls the spinning carpet brushes. For general cleaning of most carpets use the "High" setting. The brushes are powered by the suction of the unit otherwise known as turbine powered and not by an electic motor. Keep brushes clean and also filter screen which is located under see through plastic cover on top of housing. The screen allows suction to reach brush turbine and must be kept clean otherwise brushes won't turn to full power. Turn unit on by foot pedal. Squeeze hand trigger and push forward, then pull back. Release trigger. You want to get the carpet thoroughly wet by using trigger in-order to properly clean. Also carpet shampooing is not a race and not to be rushed, in-order to properly wet, scrub and suck up all dirt push and pull machine in relaxed slow pace. Also go over carpet a few times WITHOUT squeezing trigger in-order to remove as much moisture and dirt as possible. The more you suck up, the more dirt is removed and faster carpets will dry. Hope this helps, sorry for the length. Happy cleaning. ROBTSREALTOR@aol.com
