How to operate the N10...

I recently got a gift of iriver mp3 player N10. But don't seem to know how to switch it on. I've charged it long enough but it doesn't seem to switch on or I'm pressing the wrong buttons? Please help.

1 I have downloaded the operation manual. But it's still of no help as it wouldn't switch on even with the battery charged. Do I need to replace the batteries ? It's still working because I could see the function indicators light up on it's screen when I connect it to the usb
