5 Good luck getting that saw going. If the saw had gas left in it for very long, it will smell varnished. If thats true, it's possible you might have to re-build the carb. It a Tillotson HS carb. , and they are fairly easy to re-build. Might want to check your plug, maybe buy another. Then you'll need a new filter in the tank. This model has great compression, does yours feel strong? Bob

5 Try to find the stihl orange bottle from a dealer, mix it at 50:1. 1 bottle to 2 gal. gas, With no ethanol. Thats bad stuff for these old saws. Git-r-dun Don!!!!

5 Sorry Bill - cos your name is Bob!! Scot's are supposed to have a good education system and I can't even read and get your name correct - sincere apologies along with the thanks to you all. Now have Service manual through the Beg For A Manual thread on that other site, so I'm a lot further forward than I was 3 days ago. Can't wait to try it when I get home. Thanks, Don.

3 What do you need to know about your 80. I have a couple of the manuals here. On fuel, I run Stihl orange at 50:1, with 87 octane with no ethonol. Should have a switch for the start and stop. These saws have alot of compression. Has it set for awhile? Let me know how I can help you. Bob

3 Should have a little toggle switch on the left of the rear handle. Sometimes when these quit working they are removed. Then kill by choking engine. Do a google search to Arborist site, or chainsaw collectors site. !st one, they have a thread called beg for a manual. They will e-mail you a manual. It's easy to register. I'd send you one, but not that good on computer, sorry. I have 1 model 80, 7- model 70E's. If you ever want to sell the 80, let me know. Bob

2 Bril! That's the fuel sorted. It has sat for a while and I can't find a start/stop switch so any instruction (probably better with pics cos apparently we Scots are a bit slow!!) on starting/stopping would be excellent. I Can't believe how quickly you responded. I suppose at some point I'll need to service the saw so any ideas on where I can get my own instruction/service manual? Thanks again for this help. Don.

0 Hi Bill, Thanks again. Compression feels very good and it's had no gas left in it - bone dry so will try to get some in and start it over the next 2 weeks as I'm away a lot just shorly. Many Thanks again. Don.

0 Any basic instructions on öilpomp, would be useful i don't oil on my chain.. Gr.saul

0 Be sure your bar is clean inside the chain rails. Clean where it come out by bar plates. Under the bar area, by the plates is a 3 screw cover, unscrew this, it has a screen under it that could be plugged. Clean screen with fuel and replace, it should oil fine. The saw has auto oiling with no manual oiling button. Bob
