This used to come on automatically and recharge when water needed to be recharged, now I have to do it manually. I know it is turbine binding, but what is turbine binding and how do I fix it?

5 This is really a simple fix. Put it on bypass. Separate tank from the bypass. Pull out the turbine assembly with pliers from the "out" source. With a knife or razor blade carefully scrape away the thin plastic sheath layer on the inside of the cylinder that has bubbled causing the turbine to bind and stop spinning. Problem fixed. Replace the turbine in the "out" pipe. Reattach the tank to the bypass. Reconnect the softener to the bypass.

0 I have the same problem. Sears wanted several hundred dollars to replace the component, and far I have resisted the temptation to give them that sum. But, I have hard water and probably foul my inline hot water heater.....
