I have had the alarm 2 years. The bateries stopped...

I have had the alarm 2 years. The bateries stopped working and I repalced them with the specified duracell ones.Now it makes constant chirping. I noticed the 7 year product life and even though I've only had it 2 it was made April 2007. Still under 7 years.
