Maytag MAV3855AWW will not spin... pulley turns bo...

Maytag MAV3855AWW will not spin... pulley turns both ways... there is nothing between the drums... it actually 'tries' to spin occasionally... how do I tell if it's the transmission or thrust bearing?

0 Did you figure out the solution yet? I have the same problem and have changed the thrust bearing but it made no difference. I think it is a problem with the break. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am in Africa and have no way of getting service here.
