Drainage Problem...

I am cleaning my filter every time I wash these days. Used to be, once a month or less was sufficient. Now, every time i want to do a load, I have water standing in the tub anywhere between 3 and 6" high. Spinning cycle seems to do the same job as ever: why is there water remaining in the bottom of the machine?
