How to replace auger...

The center of the old auger tines failed due to metal fatigue. I have a replacement auger but how do you remove the pulley so you can remove the auger? Is it a matter of blocking the tines so it won't turn and cranking on it with a pipe wrench? The pulley appears to be aluminum alloy.
