Hi,can you tell me how to stop the phone ringing ...

Hi,can you tell me how to stop the phone ringing whilst on a call as this makes it harder to conduct a conversation please?.We have NEC XN120 phones. Secondly we have a extension that does allow us to use speed dials .We have tried swapping phones but we think this the connection.Many thanks.greg.
