I am getting a "Err" message on my NIGHTHAWK Carbo...

I am getting a "Err" message on my NIGHTHAWK Carbon Monoxide Alarm. What does this mean? I have change the 9V battery and when I hit the test reset button it goes to 888 and then back to the Err message.
