My NS65 range hood was installed ventless but I se...

My NS65 range hood was installed ventless but I see that venting and ductwork to the outside is in place. Can I remove the shield from below that prevents the fan from expelling directly into the ducting? (I'd like not to have to drop the range hood and disassemble the whole vent/ducting/taped assembly if possible.) Thank you.
