re: Hotpoint and GE Models starting with BSS, DSS, ESH, GSH, GSS, GST, HSS, SSS produced from 2003 to 2007 Many of these units were already subject to a major class action suit re: defective freezer door insulation and frost, or icemaker flaps sticking due to defective solenoid metal platings. Now an October 2007 service bulletin suggests installing heater kit WR49X10173 in the freezer door water dispenser because of design and production defects that cause that water line to freeze and stop dispensing water. Information on other sites suggests GE likes to charge its victims $250-300 per defective frig to add heaters to freezers. The 10-07 service bulletin amounts to evidence that GE knows 4-5 years of refrigerator production over 8 families of products is known to be defective. They claim that information to be proprietary, and not information they want the public to know they know, especially if disclosed to class action lawyers or used as litigation evidence. Rather than ripping off customers with a patch for defective design and construction issues that increases wasted energy use, GE should simply offer replacement non-defective appliances to customers on whom they foisted hundreds of thousands of defective products. Any lawyers with a large enough staff to handle a few hundred thousand class action clients want to help hold GE accountable for cutrate design and production?
