I took the battery & SIM card out of my phone. ...

I took the battery & SIM card out of my phone. They were out for a few hours. When I put them back in, my phone would not turn on. I charged the phone & it will come on with the charger attached, but when I disconnect the charger, it goes dead & will not come back on.
