My dishwasher will not stop filling from the second we start a load until the load is over. It even continues filling when I open the door. I can lift the plastic shutoff device by hand so it isn't stuck down but even then, it keeps on filling. Is this a watervalve problem or a shutoff problem?

0 If your dishwasher continues to fill even when it's not running or the door latched shut you probably need a water valve, if it only fills when turned on you need to check the switch below the float you had mentioned

0 thanks for your reply. how would i go about checking the switch below the float. I can probably figure out how to get the float part off but once I have that done, what would I do? Thanks

0 You'll have to remove the front kick plate to get to the switch and once you do you will be able to see the stem that the float rides in.Just below that the switch should be cradled in plastic fingers holding it up so that the stem of the float touches the lever or arm of the switch. The switches rarely go bad usually the float is gummed up with soap scum or the water valve is not closing all the way.In coming water is controlled by the timer and the float switch. If for some reason the unit didn't pump out all of the water in the last cycle the float switch will over ride the timer if the water level gets to high.and stop the fill. Are you sure the dish washer is pumping out all the water from the last cycle? You could have a partial clog where the drain hooks to your garbage disposal. By the way shut the power off when you remove the kick plate. Once you locate your float switch you'll have to use a ohm meter to find out if the switch is any good or not. Just because it clicks does not mean it's good.
