Texas Instruments Omni 800/model 885 When printing itinerary, printer jams because of a large deposit of tacky tar like substance on bar in front of "printhead". (we do not feel that this is coming from the ribbon). What is this substance? Where is it coming from? And how can the problem be solved? Thanks so much.

0 It's coming from the bottom of the printer, right behind the itineraries. There is a little black, hard plastic glob(on the underside) in the center, that after years of enduring the heat of having the printer on, melts. It looks and feels like tar. It drips down into the itineraries and then gets fed up into the printer when you issue an itinerary. I see no purpose for this glob to begin with. Took me a while to figure it out. I have two of these printers, side by side. When I compared them one day, I realized what was going on. You can remove the glob with a razor.
