My generator starts to sputter and shuts off when ...

My generator starts to sputter and shuts off when it gets to about 1/4 tank of gas. It did it and I filled up the tank and added some gas cleaner stuff I bought. It worked great but it did it again this morning with about 1/4 tank again. Could it be I just bought bad gas twice? I bought the gas at another station to try to avoid that
