My whirlpool disposal model# GC1000X.0 has a hole ...

My whirlpool disposal model# GC1000X.0 has a hole rusted all the way through to the outside and must be replaced. I know how to use a wrench and can diconect/reconect the romex wire providing power. Any advice? Can I leave the original plumbing connection to the bottom of the sink?
