HP LaserJet fraud
HP LaserJet fraud
Avoid toner fraud
It has been said that imitation is the sincerest form
of flattery. But it can also be a crime! Some dishonest
individuals have attempted to sell used, refilled,
remanufactured or non-original cartridges as new,
genuine HP print cartridges. Often these cartridges
come in an HP look-alike box and packaging.
HP resellers can be affected in two ways:
Sales can be lost when customers believe that they
are buying HP LaserJet print cartridges at a lower price
than offered by the reseller. When you come across
these situations, the HP sales representative should
be notified.
Resellers can be tempted to purchase this lower-price
product and offer it to their customers. This is risky
because not only can their customers experience
quality problems, but the reseller could be caught in
possession of a counterfeit product.
Use caution when offers include any of the
following elements:
Better price than from HP distributors.
Other part numbers are not available.
Requires cash on delivery.
Includes story of fire sale, auction, or similar
acquisition.
Product that has been reboxed for some reason.
And product appearance:
Has no HP logo.
Has HP logo but price, etc. are questionable.
Is not wrapped as usual, on usual pallets.
Is not in subpacks as from HP.
What to do:
Ask for written quote via fax.
Make sure they say it’s HP, not just infer that it is.
Ask what other products are available.
Ask to call them back.
Ask to examine the product.
Call your HP sales rep or HP at 1-877-219-3183.
What HP will do:
Examine the product.
Validate or invalidate the offer.
Investigate fraudulent product.
Take legal action.
Anti-counterfeit packaging
All new HP Invent LaserJet cartridge packaging now
includes the following anti-counterfeit features:
Tear-pull strip on top of box.
Permanently glued bottom of box.
Toner security seal that signifies to customer genuine
HP. Two ways to check that seal is authentic:
Logo changes from green to blue; glossy
appearance and sparkles when viewed from
some angles.
Heat-sensitive stripe runs horizontally across toner
security seal. If you rub your finger vigorously across
stripe, the ink fades and the message “HP invent” can
be seen underneath.
