Operating Instructions
A. Fuel Size And Material
1. Wood Pellets
Fuelpelletsaremadefromsawdustorwoodby-products.Ifthe
sourcematerialishardwood,theycanhaveahighermineral
content,creatingmoreash.Fuelscontainingbarkwillalsohave
higherashcontent.Mineralsandothernoncombustiblematerials
suchassandwillturnintoahard,glass-likesubstancecalled
aclinkerwhenheatedtotheextremetemperaturesourrepot
reaches.Thisiswhatformsclinkersinthebottomoftherepot.
Treesfromdifferentareaswillvaryinmineralcontent.Thatis
whysomefuelsproducemoreclinkersthanothers.Pelletsare
manufacturedineither1/4inchor5/16inch(6-8mm)diameterand
shouldbeno more than 1-1/2 inches (38mm) in length.Pellet
lengthsmayevenvarybylotfromthesamemanufacturerwhich
iswhythefeedratemayneedtobeadjustedoccasionally.If you
burn pellets longer than 1-1/2 inches (38mm) you may have
an inconsistent fuel feed rate and/or missed ignitions.
Pelletfuelqualitycangreatlyuctuate.Werecommendusing
premiumgradefuelwithashcontentlessthan1%.Eveninsome
fuellabeled“premium”ashcontentcanvaryfrombagtobagand
possiblyexceed1%.Highashfuel,orlackofmaintenance,can
causetherepottollupandthuscreateapotentialforsmoking,
sootingandpossiblehopperres.
Alwaysburndryfuel.Burningfuelwithhighmoisturecontenttakes
heatfromthefuelandtendstocooltheappliance,robbingheat
fromyourhome.Damppelletfuelcanclogthefeedsystem.
Werecommendthatyoubuyfuelinmulti-tonlotswhenever
possible.Buyinglargequantitiesoffuelatoncewillgreatly
reducethenumberoftimesthefeedadjustmentswillneedtobe
made.However,wedorecommendtryingvariousbrandsbefore
purchasingmulti-tonlotstoensureyoursatisfaction.
2. Shelled Field Corn
Extensivefactoryandeldtestinghasdemonstratedshelled
eldcorntobeanefcientandveryeconomicalfuel. We
recommendtheuseofa50-50blendofcornandwoodpellets.
Theonlychangeinoperationisthatthefeedratemayrequire
aslightadjustment.TheBTUoutputoftheappliancevaries
slightlycomparedtopellets,dependingonthequalityofthe
cornused.Incaseswhereitisacceptablefortheapplianceto
runfulltime,100%cornwillworkaftertherehasbeenstarted
usingwoodpellets.
B. General Operating Information
1. Thermostat Calls For Heat
Theapplianceislikemostmodernfurnaces;whenthe
thermostatcallsforheat,yourappliancewill automatically
lightanddeliverheat.Whentheroomisuptotemperature
andthethermostatissatised,theredcalllightwillgooffand
theappliancewillshutdown.
2. Heat Output Controls
Thisapplianceisequippedwithaheatoutputcontrolswitch
thathasthreesettingsorburnrates;low,mediumandhigh.
Theappliancewillturnonandoffasthethermostatdemands.
Whenthethermostatcallsforheat,theappliancewillstart
uponthehighsettingfortherst4minutesand15seconds,
thenautomaticallyswitchtotheburnrateforwhichitisset.
Iftheapplianceissetatoneofthelowersettings,itwillrun
quieterbuttakelongertoheatupanareathanifitwereset
atahigherburnrate.Regardlessoftheburnrate,whenthe
areaiswarmenoughtosatisfythethermostat,theappliance
willshutoff.
3. Fan Speed Switch
Thisswitchwilladjustthespeedoftheroomdistributionair
fanorconvectionbloweronallthreesettings.Thismeans
youhavesixdifferentblowerspeedsavailableasthereisa
highandlowoneachsetting.

WARNING
• High ash fuels, or lack of maintenance, can
cause the firepot to overfill. Follow proper
shutdown procedure if ash buildup exceeds
half way point in firepot.
• Failure to do so could result in smoking,
sooting and possible hopper fires.
